Author Topic: How much time has past since you've last played the gaming systems you own?  (Read 1623 times)

Starting in 2024, I made an effort to play and complete games for as many platforms that are available to me. And because of that, I was able to revisit a lot of systems that I otherwise hadn't played in a number of years, even though I still haven't gotten to some at this present moment. So I was curious—how long has it been since you last played your Super Nintendo? Your Game Gear? Your PlayStation 3? Do you remember the last game you played or completed for those systems? Maybe this topic can bring others attention to some of their more forgotten libraries that they haven't gone back to in a long time and play something for it once more.

Within the past month: Wii, Genesis, PS2, PS5, PS4, NES, Switch, N64, XBONE

Within the past 6 months: PS1, GBA, Saturn, 3DS, PC, PS3, Dreamcast

Within the past year: Sega CD, Gameboy Color, SNES

Within the past 5 years: XBOX, Gameboy, 360, TG16/PCE, Neo Geo Pocket, WiiU, DS

Over 5 years: PSP, 32x

I think that about covers it. For the most part, seeing this does not surprise me. Of note, many of the "Within the past 5 years" consoles I played within the past 2 years, but there are a few like the Wii U and TG16 that I genuinely have not played in a very long time. PSP and 32x do not surprise me i nthe slightest since I have just enough interest in both those systems to own them, but I rarely play games for them.

Let me just go through my console list and see

C64 - never
VIC-20 - never
GB - early 2000s
GBA - 10+ years
MSX - 2 years but technically never (cart wouldn't load)
Odyssey2 - never
NES (via Retron5) - 3-5 years
NGPC - 10+ years
PC - today ^_^ (MLM/browser), gaming PC - last week (Diablo III) but had gone 6 months without playing a "modern" game since June 2025.
PS1 - technically never, on PS2, 10 months
PS2 US/JP - 9 months
PS3 US - 9 months
PS3 JP - never
DC - 10+ years
GG - 15-20 years
SMS - 10-15 years
Genesis - 10 months
Saturn US - 3 years
Saturn JP - 10 months
Sinclair 1000 - never
TI-99 - never
Xbox 360 JP - never

Those are just complete/usable systems. I have other consoles that I don't have enough parts to actually use. I also left off Wii from that list, as while I have 2 Wii consoles, I don't have any complete systems as I've got rid of the parts and my black Wii just a few months ago.

Your Stylish Sword Master!

All the time or weekly - PS5, PS4, PS2

Sometimes or monthly - XBX, SNES, NES, Vita, Gamecube, Switch, PS3, Virtual Boy

Hardly never been a while - PSP, Gameboy Color, Gameboy OG, DS, 3DS,  N64,

Havent played in almost a decade - Dreamcast, Atari 2600, Atari 5200, XB1X, 360, PS1, Wii

The main reason being is that PS1 dont get played because PS2 plays PS1 games. It makes it unnecessary.  360 doesnt get played because PS3 took over my consumption for that generation.  Dreamcast although I am curious about it. Gets overshadowed by 3 childhood staples for me. PS2, XBX, and GC.  And all the atari gen consoles are a bit too primative and beep boop for my tastes.

The rest are glorious and PS5 plays PS4 which makes backwards compat a big factor in what gets played and how often.

You might get a little surprise when you do. I tried pulling out my old PSP after it sat for a decade. The battery was all puffed up and bursting out of the back hatch! Older rechargeable batteries tend to go bad.

For Playstation 5, it was last year with Death Stranding 2 and that was mostly it.  My Xbox 360 was maybe 2 years ago or so when I pulled out to play some Guitar Hero, that's the only reason I still have it.  I then have a Playstation 2, but I don't remember the last time I ever legit played it. Oh, Nintendo 64, I have that, but also haven't played in many years, because it's an N64 and while I have a deep love for the N64, I don't have a deep love for that controller lol

Interesting topic. Makes me consider busting out the ol' Genesis.

Game Gear - Roughly 4 months ago.
Genesis model 2 - 3 years ago?
PS2 Slim - 8 months ago
PSV - 4 years ago
PS4 - 5 years
PS5 - 2 days ago
Switch - 2 weeks ago

I own a Vita too and have since about 2018, but funny enough I've never played it once. I have like 10 games for it too. It's on the block to sold soon for this reason.

Do it!

You don't think it's worth trying out at least once before selling it?

To be honest, my wife is the one who mostly wanted it and like me she never played it. Many of the games I was most interested in have since been ported. I think my wife wanted to play that exclusive Uncharted game, which supposedly isn't that great anyways. She's on board to sell it as well.

Man, this one hurts to see. There are so, so many amazing games on the PS1. Maybe it stings a bit more since I've been on a bit of a PS1 kick this week. Hopefully the 20 years is because you play PS1 games on a PS2 or PS3.

The reason for the long time is most definitely because I play PlayStation games with a PlayStation 2. In recent months, I've played through the first three Resident Evil games that way, so it's not like I'm ignoring the platform's library altogether. Just from the games I already own, I still have a lot to play too.

I figured that was the case. I probably play games on my actual PS1 more than your average person due to mine being modded for HDMI out and an Xstation thrown in with nearly every game on it I have any interest in.
